While in Poland I visited a few second hand shops and scoured their fabric and table ware sections in search of vintage linen fabric, tea towels, napkins etc. When my grandmother caught wind of this she pulled out this beautiful light teal embroidered linen tablecloth and handed it to me. It had a few stains and holes and I immediately thought it would be perfect to cut up and use in sewing and patchwork projects. Then i asked my grandmother where it was from. Her answer : "It was my mother's. It is as old as I am." Hmm, she just turned ninety. Now I am thinking that this is far to precious to cut up. Maybe I should restore it, or use it in it's entirety to make a quilt. Maybe I should just leave it as it is and keep it safe.

it is SO beautiful and definitely can't be cut up. would be nice to use it though, i like the idea of it in a quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous and so sweet that your Grandmother just gave it to you. That tablecloth must have seen so much, so precious.
